Drawing inspiration from architecture and nature, fashion and portrait photographer Brett Rubin's striking aesthetic subverts the expected. Through his work with many of the country's leading and emerging fashion designers, Rubin has developed a unique perspective on contemporary South African fashion.In 2012 he exhibited Skin Portraits at the Edinburgh Fashion Festival. The series of photographs illustrated a perfumer's interpretation of nine iconic South Africans unique personal scents via an exploration of each individual's cultural heritage. Rubin and stylist Nicole Van Heerden are co-founders of VATIC – a company specializing in the production of creative collaborations across various mediums. Rubin was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. He holds a graduate degree in Film, Media & Visual Studies from the University of Cape Town (UCT), where he was awarded photographer of the year in 2003. He has produced work for clients including Marie Claire, ELLE, GQ, Pringle of Scotland, Grolsch, Nintendo Wii, Hugh Masekela and Design Indaba. www.brettrubin.com
