The Neural Rehabilitation Group (NRG) develops methods and technologies that could help understanding and controlling human biological systems and their interaction with the environment. In particular, interdisciplinary research program is established with the mission of collaboratively pursuing the development of innovative methodologies, interventions, and assistive devices to improve the quality of care and quality of life for people with disabilities.In this context, their goals cover the analysis and evaluation of the neuromusculoskeletal and cognitive systems that allow humans to produce movement and decisions in unstructured environments. They actively pursue innovative and impactful research toward the development of methods that improve functional or health outcomes of individuals with physical disabilities, including but not limited to individuals with stroke, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy. In addition, we are interested on cognitive and physical human enhancement through natural or artificial means.We are a multidisciplinary group combining knowledge from the areas of Neuroscience, Physical Therapy, Biomechanics, Control, Robotics, Modeling, Machine Learning, and others. Specifically, we have long-term expertise in Wearable Robotics, both upper and lower extremity neuroprosthesis and wearable robot development. In particular, NRG has more that 12 years of continued leading research activities in managing human-machine interaction (HMI), both physical and cognitive. In cognitive HMI, we have particular expertise in algorithms for processing bioelectrical activity (EEG, EMG) and biomechanical information (IMUs) as a source of control commands for neuroprosthesis and wearable robots. In the area of physical HMI, we have developed several neuroprosthesis and wearable robotic systems for functional compensation (assistance) and rehabilitation (NEUROTREMOR, TREMOR, H2R, BIOMOT, HYPER, GAIT, ESBIRRO, BETTER, REHABOT).
