Assistant Superintendent of Residential and Juvenile Justice Youth Education Programs
Lighthouse Academy School is a unique learning option for students who have been expelled, or who are at risk of dropping out of school, yet, want their education. The astounding success of LA is attributed to providing a holistic approach in educating all of its students; concrete procedures to ensure LA is the best school for a student; and continual feedback and follow through by an exemplary staff committed to the achievement and success of all students. LA's Initial student body totaled 17 when the doors first opened in 2005. Since then, LA has grown from a one-room school, to having five campuses throughout Kent County, educating over 900 students last year, alone. Attendance rates for students entering LA average 30%, however, once enrolled at LA, it tends to increase to an average of 85%. LA has graduated 84 students over the years, with 100% of them going on to enroll in college, the military, and/or to obtain a self-sustaining job; many of them never imagining they would ever graduate from high school.
