The Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada was established in 1974 by a small group of visionaries committed to preserving Canada's distinct aviation heritage. Today, with nearly 100 historic aircraft and more than 70,000 artifacts, texts and photographs, the Museum remains one of Canada's largest and most complete aviation heritage collections. This remarkable collection is not only the foundation for telling a remarkable story of history, but also engages students and visitors in discovering the science behind flight, inspiring future generations of aviators and explorers of the sky.To meet the needs of our community, we are building a new state-of-the-art Museum. This 86,000 ft² facility, located on Wellington Ave at the Richardson International Airport, will enhance Winnipeg's distinctive role as a central transportation hub and profile the city's aerospace leadership in Canada. Once the new Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada opens in fall of 2021 the new Museum will be:- one of only six Royal museums in Canada;- a signature facility celebrating Canada's Legends of Aviation;- a world-class facility that explores the history and science of aeronautics (Winnipeg has the third largest aerospace revenue in Canada and largest in Western Canada);- a community-wide destination for education, entertainment, tourism and business, boosting Winnipeg's economic, social and educational environment.A vision for the new Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada's has taken shape - to inspire, educate, and entertain all visitors that come through its doors. The Museum will be the premier storyteller in Western Canada of the country's aerospace heritage, providing a highly interactive multi-generational experience in our new facility.
