The Himalaya are a famously beautiful part of the world. But many of those who live in the shadow of these magnificent mountains struggle without healthcare or education, young girls live in danger of being trafficked, and traditional ways of life are fast disappearing. The American Himalayan Foundation exists to respond to these pressing problems and bring positive, tangible change to people's lives.Since AHF's first partnerships formed in 1981, with Sir Edmund Hillary and His Holiness the Dalai Lama, we have expanded to touch the lives of over 300,000 Sherpas, Tibetans, and Nepalis throughout the Himalaya each year. Our mission is to take care of people in the Himalaya who are in need and have no one else: by opening doors to education and health care, helping build stronger communities, and developing lasting, trusting local partnerships.
