ICT Sector at Caribbean Telecommunications Union - Port of Spain, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago
Welcome to the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) - a Caribbean intergovernmental organisation dedicated to facilitating the development of the regional telecommunications sector.Established by Caribbean Heads of Government in 1989, the CTU's mandate is to create an environment in partnership with members to optimise the returns from ICT resources for the benefit of stakeholders, ultimately the peoples of the region. A multi-stakeholder ICT organisation, the CTU's membership includes 20 Member States, both CARICOM and non-CARICOM, and private sector and civil society organisations. The CTU is the region's foremost proponent of ICT-enabled development, committed to fostering the Caribbean's development through the effective use of ICTs.The CTU recently re-structured its operations to ensure that it was relevant to the prevailing environment of rapid technological innovation and to make it more responsive to its members' needs. The membership was also expanded to include non-CARICOM states, private sector organizations and non-governmental agencies, creating a multi-stakeholder membership base dedicated to the principles of collaboration among all stakeholders in the regional sector.The Vision of the CTU Secretariat is "To position the CTU to be the prime catalyst facilitating regional cooperation, economic, social and cultural development of the peoples of the Caribbean through the provision of efficient and advanced information and telecommunication services."The CTU is committed to ensuring that tangible benefits from the development of the Caribbean information and telecommunication sectors accrue to the citizens of the region.
