The Maritime Lumber Bureau (MLB) was founded in 1938. For the past 75 years the organization has provided market access services for the Atlantic Region's lumber producers. The MLB monitors the quality control of lumber, provides training in grading and has implemented an effective Certificate of Origin Program for shipments of softwood lumber destined for the United States. The MLB is an accredited quality control agency by the Canadian Lumber Standards Accreditation Board, the American Lumber Standards committee; the British Standards Institute; and the Japanese Ministry of Construction. The MLB is also certified by the Canadian Food and Inspection Agency (CFIA) as a "service provider".
