The Cyrus and Priya Vandrevala Foundation ( www.vandrevalafoundation.com) started its Mental health India initiative in the year 2009 by establishing the first 24/7 free mental health crisis intervention helpline manned by psychologists and with documentation of calls. Over the years it answered more than five lakh calls and a number of emails. With the onset of the pandemic, it was the first helpline to move to a cloud telephony platform for seamless operations. This was integrated into a data capture and retrieval system which was unique to mental health helpline needs. The caller now has options to make a voice call, chat, email, use social media to connect along with these there are WhatsApp chats also. The helpline has more than 75 counsellors working and aims at moving these to more than 100. The helpline has a unique call-back system with a mere click hence can all missed calls are answered. The counsellor has the advantage of work from home, easy login, and logouts, multilingual and multi-location advantages. The feature-rich platform is easy to use and ideal for internship and observership for students. We do not charge for this. Similarly, volunteers can join our service and sharpen their counseling skills. Our call volumes are enormous along with written counseling, hence enough learning skill material available.
