The bank started operations on 28th July 2009. Its shareholding structure comprises 97% Government and 3% private individuals and entities. Women entrepreneurs sent their request to the government of Tanzania requesting an establishment of an institution that would understand the special and unique challenges which women face when accessing banking services. Also the establishment would be an opportunity for the bank to become a dominant Tanzanian player in this sector.FOCUSTWB is committed to expand its focus to Group Microfinance, to segments of individual microfinance, Small and Medium Enterprises with more emphasis on women customers.
