The Bishop's School was founded on 19th April 1864 for the boys of Warrant Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers stationed at Poona. Corporal Mansfield was the first schoolmaster. The school started functioning in one of the Old Barracks close to its current location. The school moved to its present site in 1868 when the property was sold to Rt. Rev. John Harding, the then Lord Bishop of Bombay.In 1950 the school was registered as a Public Trust under the Bombay Public Trusts Act and functioned under the Poona Diocesan Schools Committee. The Bishop's School continues to run as an Unaided Minority Anglo-Indian School and is today amongst the leading schools of the nation. The school is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE).Two coeducational branches were also opened at Kalyani Nagar in 2003 and at Undri in 2006. The Junior College for both boys and girls, offering Science, Arts and Commerce, was successfully commissioned at The Bishop's School, Camp from the academic year 2004-05 and at The Bishop's Co-Ed School, Kalyani Nagar from the academic year 2018-19.From a school consisting of one teacher and 15 pupils, today the school caters to a large number of students, with approximately 3700 students per school with 500 teaching and administrative staff tending to the needs of these students and an additional 220 support staff. The school is committed to offering the highest standards of education, sports and extra-curricular activities thus fostering all-round growth and development of its students.Notable alumni include Sabeer Bhatia, Cyrus Poonawalla, Gautam Bambawale, Admiral Sushil Kumar, Lt.
