Edge Health helps healthcare providers and commissioners to be more efficient through better and more intelligent use of their data. Between 2017 and 2020, Edge has worked across 70 projects with over 30 unique NHS clients and has delivered cash savings for the NHS from reduced spending on overtime (£3m in South Tees) through to reducing the cost of spending on high-cost drugs (supporting +£294m of cash releasing savings to NHS from reduced spend on medicines). Our work has also helped patients to have better experiences and outcomes with the NHS, such as through improved scheduling of operations, tracking cancer patients to avoid delays, and reconfiguring hospital beds to better match demand. A key part of the success of Edge in delivering these outcomes comes from our approach to working with clinicians, managers, administrative, IT, executive and other members of the system to understand the problems faced, develop solutions, and support implementation. This approach is set out more below with two case studies to bring it to life.
