In August 2020, Vicare Medical Supplies was established to help address a major problem reported by the Australian Government - the critical shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) for Australian healthcare workers.From the government reports, Vicare identified that there were quality issues with some imported products. As a result, we resolved to manufacture within Australia disposable face masks for general use, as well as disposable medical level 2 and level 3 face masks. Within a few short months, we successfully built a manufacturing facility in Melbourne. This facility, compliant with Australian Standard AS4381:2015 (ARTG 368650), commenced making disposable face masks locally. We then proudly joined the ‘Australian Made' campaign for our face masks.We also formed relationships with manufacturers of high-quality special medical supplies. These allowed us to supply items such as isolation gowns, lab coats, hair covers and shoe covers. At this stage, these types of items are imported because it is not feasible for us to make them in Australia. We are, however, working hard to build up our supply. Our aim is to locally manufacture these all of the items we sell, replacing importation.
