Nelo was founded by paddle sports enthusiast Manuel Ramos in 1978. The company is based in Portugal, a country steeped in maritime history and with a unique culture of creativity and innovation. Over 40 years, Nelo has gradually moved to the forefront of the racing kayak and canoe industry with a series of radical advances in hull design and strong athlete following at the elite level. Athletes using Nelo equipment won 20 medals at the Beijing Olympics Games (2008), 25 in London (2012) and 27 in Rio de Janiero (2016). Nelo saw the potential to carry their immense success in hull design and athlete integration to the rowing world and in 2017 began the Nelo Rowing division under Portuguese rowing star Nuno Mendes. Undaunted by the highly traditional and circumscribed world of rowing, Nelo has brought to market a new series of racing shells with a full range of technological innovations and using the very best boat building techniques all brought to you with a uniquely Iberian sense of color and style. At Nelo, innovation and style go hand in hand!
