Sheriff Mark T. Garber serves as the Chief Law Enforcement Officer for the Parish of Lafayette. Elected in 2015, Sheriff Garber has rebranded and revamped the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office. The core functions of the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office include criminal law enforcement, tax collection, service of process, and management of our three correctional and re-entry facilities. The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office provides complete law enforcement services including patrol, dispatch, and criminal investigation. Our Communications Center provides dispatch communication services for the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office and the police departments for the towns of Broussard, Carencro, Duson, Scott, and Youngsville. The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office provides civil process for the district courts and operates a full time SWAT Team that is designed to apprehend wanted felons and assist Patrol. The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office has several specialty areas including Water Patrol, Motorcycle Unit, Dive Team, Crisis Negotiators, Search and Rescue, and SWAT and CERT Teams. The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office is dedicated to providing the highest quality law enforcement service in order to enhance community safety, to protect life and property, and to reduce crime. This goal will be accomplished through a mutually cooperative relationship between the Sheriff's Office, law enforcement agencies throughout the Parish, and the community it serves. By working together, we can maintain the peace and provide safety and security for the citizens of Lafayette Parish.
