Muscular Dystrophy South Australia is a non-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting people living with a neuromuscular condition to have a full and active life as possible and promoting Muscular Dystrophy awareness prevention and research through a number of innovative fundraising methods. There are over 60 different types of neuromuscular conditions affecting people of all ages. The prevalence of people living with a neuromuscular condition in the South Australia is 1:1000 and it is estimated that there is more than 20,000 people in Australia also living with neuromuscular conditions. There is currently no cure for any of the neuromuscular conditions. The sole purpose of the organisation is to provide support to people living with Muscular Dystrophy and also help fund research to help find the cause and possible treatments or cures. Muscular Dystrophy South Australia provides the following essential support to people living with Muscular Dystrophy: condition information, support groups, therapies, counselling, physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, speech therapy, respiratory aids, equipment support, respite camps and advocacy.
