Traveling Stories is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that helps kids fall in love with reading by the fourth grade! In America, 82% of low-income children cannot read at grade level by the fourth grade (Annie E. Casey Foundation). We're changing that with our StoryTent a program, a mobile literacy resource that provides free reading support at Farmers Markets. Kids visit the StoryTent, read books with parents or volunteers and earn book bucks for each book read. Book bucks may be redeemed for prizes and field trip experiences! In this way, Traveling Stories also helps kids learn money management skills. Internationally, Traveling Stories opens libraries in book-poor villages. Since 2010, Traveling Stories has opened libraries in El Salvador, Nicaragua, South Sudan, the Philippines and Cambodia. In 2015 Traveling Stories helped more than 5,000 children improve their reading skills worldwide. 100% of parents surveyed said that their child's reading levels improved as a direct result of visiting a Traveling Stories program.
