Watts of Love is a global solar light nonprofit that brings people the power to raise themselves out of the darkness of extreme poverty. Nearly 1 billion people still do not have access to reliable electricity. Instead, many rely on dangerous and expensive kerosene, candles or batteries to light their homes at night.Solar light unlocks a pathway out of poverty. After receiving free, clean, solar light, families are healthier, safer, and positioned to create a new financial future. The Watts of Love empowerment model provides financial literacy training to the poorest families. We ask every light recipient – what is your big dream?Families use their newfound savings to purchase animals, send children to school, install better roofs on their homes, and increase their productive working hours to generate even more income. As of 2019, more than 40,000 solar lights have been distributed around the world via Impact Travel Teams and in-country lighthouse operations.
