De muziekschool werd opgericht in 1989 en stond onder leiding van Gina Lefebure. Sinds 2009 draagt de school de naam "Muziekschool Lochristi vzw". In juli 2013 werd de leiding overgedragen aan Simon Neyt en Joeri De Decker.Deze school staat los van het reguliere DKO wat de mogelijkheid biedt om eigen klemtonen te leggen. Naast een muziekafdeling waar men zowel instrumentles, notenleer als groepsles (ensemble, combo, kamermuziek, ...) kan volgen, is er een woordafdeling bestaande uit voordracht en musical.
