The Fulbright Commission Portugal was created in 1960 by Diplomatic Agreement signed by the Governments of Portugal and the United States of America to administer in Portugal the Fulbright Program of educational exchange. Fulbright Commission Portugal aims to develop the mutual understanding between Portugal and the United States of America by providing exchange opportunities to professors, researchers and students, based on academic performance and public diplomacy skills; high quality information and orientation concerning the education systems of both countries; and the organization of initiatives that boost knowledge sharing. In addition to grant programs, the organization manages the Fulbright Information Center which is part of the EducationUSA network. Its focus is to provide accurate, complete, updated and unbiased information regarding education in the United States of America.
