At Green Footprint, we provide Permaculture Design services for the urban environment - from apartment block balconies to suburbia; inner-city rooftops to small rural plots.What is Permaculture? Permaculture - a derivation from the phrase Perma[nent] [Agri]culture - is about producing food in a manner that works with, rather than against, nature. It is an alternative food production concept that can be implemented in a backyard or on acreage, is sustainable, and capable of producing nutrient dense, organic output. And the Design part? To create an abundant system requires the consideration of a number of factors: sun, shade, wind, rain and soil quality. Then there's also specific plant selection, and whether the shape of the landscape can be used for productive ends. But the real value-add is in the deliberate interplay of parts: such as the way wildflowers can be used to naturally control garden pests; or the way rainwater can be used to naturally transport organic fertiliser. It is the role of a Designer to observe and implement these connections, which make permaculture systems highly productive and sustainable.So what will it mean for you? You will be home to abundant vegetable gardens, fruit and nut trees, water harvesting, filtering and recycling systems, worm farms, composting systems and much more. You will be able to save time, cost, and teach family and friends how they might implement similar systems in their own lives.
