It is assumed that natural and anthropic hazards, their consequences, and, most of all, their impact on society in terms of damage cannot be removed. However, the limits of tolerance to their effects should be increased, thus reducing the level of potential disaster. With this aim, a careful comparison should take place on the procedures adopted in the management of crises, such as those that affected the Pianura Padana and the central regions of Italy in the last ten years, to assess which policies have had a positive outcome and which constrains characterized any inefficiencies.This is the goal of the After the Damages advanced training project. Capitalizing on the experience acquired in recent post-earthquake reconstruction by the partners involved and the experience of managing disaster events, the project brings together an interdisciplinary team of Italian and international experts. The central aim is to highlight recent innovations and advancements in the post-disaster management by providing the most up-to-date skills to enable participants to play a proactive role in disaster risk management and respond more effectively when calamitous events occur. Moreover, in these challenging times, as the coronavirus outbreak represents an unprecedented trial on public health around the globe, new leadership practice should draw on wisdom from former experiences while learning, in real time, lessons from today, prioritizing action and thereby better serving the communities.The International Academy "After the Damages" is among the three-year high educational projects in the fields of culture, economy and technology.
