Welcoming its first class of students in 2011, the SoDM trains North Carolinians who are service-minded and ready to improve oral health care for people across the state. The school's nationally recognized model of education and patient care includes eight commmunity service learning centers in rural North Carolina communities from the mountains to the coast. There, fourth-year students work alongside faculty and residents to provide care for patients from under-resourced counties and towns nearby. So far, the school has reached more than 75,000 patients from all 100 North Carolina counties.
