RDK or Reference Design Kit was created to accelerate the deployment of next-generation video and broadband services. It is a pre-integrated, open-source software distribution that provides a common framework for powering customer-premises equipment (CPE) such as set-top boxes, modem/routers and other devices from communications service providers. It enables service providers to standardize certain elements of these devices, enabling them to quickly launch their own new services or customize applications and user experiences.
