AEIT was created in July, 2007. With the Governor and Cabinet as the head of the agency, AEIT is administratively housed within the Executive Office of the Governor. AEIT's duties and responsibilities are defined at length in the Florida Statutes and in Laws of Florida. In short, AEIT is responsible for developing strategies for the design, delivery, and management of, monitoring the delivery and management of, and writing policies (by administrative rule) for enterprise information technology services established in law. AEIT is also responsible for recommending future enterprise information technology services and for developing standards for the procurement of IT products and services.AEIT was unfunded in July, 2012 resulting from a veto of legislation which would have changed the mission of AEIT.
