ASSIST News Service (ANS) is a branch of ASSIST Ministries started by British journalist Dan Wooding. ASSIST is tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. It is eligible to receive contributions deductible as charitable donations for federal income tax purposes. "ASSIST" is an acronym for Aid to Special Saints In Strategic Times. ASSIST Ministries was started in 1988 to help Christians living under difficult circumstances, and to share the Gospel with those who do not know Christ. One of the ways it does this is to develop pen-pal relationships with both believers and non-believers to bring them into a strong relationship with Christ. ASSIST has developed this ministry in the former Soviet Union countries, China and North Korea. Thousands of volunteer Christian pen pals in the West currently correspond with people in other countries as part of this program. Vision: ANS yearns to have a broad-based and comprehensive approach to covering the news, looking at issues of importance to a Christian worldview, seeking new understanding of the Christian's role in the world. ASSIST News Service (ANS) seeks to cover news from around the world from a Christian perspective, offering insight, commentary, and relevant information on a host of contemporary and important issues affecting the world, Christians, and the church. Though ANS seeks to cover a multinational spectrum of areas and issues facing Christians, ANS has purposely steered clear of news items of a particular political or ideological view. Therefore, we, by our own internal standards, do not cover the political world, or the politicians that are the driving force behind the heated topics and debates. ANS SEEKS TO GIVE VOICE TO PERSECUTED CHRISTIANS AROUND THE WORLD. THIS IS DONE BY PROVIDING STORIES OF HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSE TO THE GLOBAL MEDIA AND THEREFORE GAINING THE ATTENTION OF THE PUBLIC.
