BioCoal Corporation provides disruptive technology for replacement of coal with algae. This replacement reduces emissions and reduces the carbon footprint of new and existing coal fired power plants.The renewable energy generated by the combustion of algae in power plants is credited against renewable portfolio standards (RPS). The cost to install the algae growth facilities, BioCoal harvesting and coal handling modifications is low, about half the cost of the equivalent wind energy cost.The emissions are lowered by the percentage of algae that is combusted, in early facilities this is projected at 10%. There is a larger NOx reduction, testing in pilot boilers indicate a 20% reduction in NOx for a 10% algae combustion.
