Familias was founded in 1998 by members of the Hispanic community and other stakeholders respond to the need for a culturally specific organization to promote health for Hispanics. The mission of Familias is to promote holistic family well-being for Latinos through community engagement, education, research and advocacy for social change. The priorities of Familias include cancer and chronic disease prevention and education, cancer survivorship, chronic disease self-management, community leadership development, the elimination of health disparities, community based participatory research, community participation in public policy, strategic partnerships and holistic health integrating mind, body and spirit.
