Karibu is committed to promoting innovation and entrepreneurship in Liberia's primary and secondary school system using Information and Communications Technology (ICT).According to Liberia's Telecommunications and ICT Policy published in 2009, "Liberia's ability to accelerate its economic development process, gain global competitiveness and improve the well-being of its people, depends on the extent to which it can develop, use, and sell ICT". Similarly, the SDGs recognize technology as a catalyst for development.However, less than 10 percent of all the existing 1,200 schools in Liberia offer skills in ICT. Although Liberia recognizes the opportunities offered by technology, the 14 years of civil war, which ended in 2003, collapsed the educational system. As a result, most schools lack the resources, expertise and competence necessary to provide quality education and effective skills in ICT.Karibu welcomes this challenge by providing kindergarten, primary and secondary (K-12) schools with the logistics and expertise necessary to integrate ICT with education. We are developing the first national ICT Education Framework for all K-12 schools in Liberia. In addition to that, Karibu is planning to equip over 500 schools (approx. 250,000 students yearly) with computers and ICT trainers by 2030.Our mission is to improve Liberia's educational system by making ICT education affordable and accessible in all K-12 schools nationwide. Our programs will introduce work-based learning and entrepreneurial skills in ICT to help young people work their way out of poverty. Through partnerships and collaborations with rural schools and community-based learning centers, we are also dedicated to extending quality education to under-served populations in Liberia.Karibu brings hope to millions of young people who are passionate about science and technology, but lack the opportunities and means to develop their potential.
