Creative Director Dr. Alain Balseiro founded the 3D Design Lab. "The Laboratorium" . Focused on virtual production for scientific simulation, the Design Lab. questions and creates blueprints/scripts programmed in Unreal Engine 4 (C++) or Unity 3D (C#). Alain was formerly employed by France 2 (the National French Network) where he worked with the "Institut National de l'Audiovisuel (INA)" - and which explained his affinity for retro and cinematic aesthetics. With "The Laboratorium" and "START" (STEM Robotics + ART), he also designed educational programs for underserved children to learn Robotics with 3D simulation, using the same game engine used by NASA Jet Propulsion Lab. They learnt how to animate advanced physics and mechanics in simulated VR environments. His experience in academic research - in Information Science and Communication Science - prompt him to focus on educational programs which inspire positive learning experiences in science and engineering through design & narrative tools. He truly believes that aesthetics can help educators/students/users to understand and explain complex scientific concepts more intuitively. He encourages educators and students to "play" with the arts to increase their motivation in STEM and to offer more diverse learning opportunities (i.e. programming with the option of coding or using a digital blueprint), especially for students with difficulties.
