Community Bank Upwey, Bendigo and Cockatoo is part of Bendigo Bank. Our branches return most of its profit to the local community through sponsorship's, grants and local initiatives. We're making great things happen in our community and we'd love you to be part of it.--------------------------------In March 1998, the Commonwealth Bank closed its doors in Upwey leaving the township without a bank. The Upwey & District Community Finance Limited Company was formed in 1998 as a result of the need of local residents and through the facilitation of the Upwey Village Consultative Committee. The community pledged a sum of $212K and on the 17th October 1998 a Street Festival was held promoting the opening of the new bank, which took place on the 19th October 1998. A Board of nine (7) volunteer directors who contribute their time and expertise around their own busy schedules manage the Franchisee Company, which operates the Bank. One of the key objectives of the bank is to return profits into the community and to this end it has developed a number of annual initiatives including Education Support Scholarships and a Community Grants program. The business has subsequently opened branches in Belgrave and Cockatoo. It also has agencies in Emerald and Marysville. This growth prompted a name change to Dandenong Ranges Community Bank Group to better reflect its community footprint.By 2020 the Dandenong Ranges Community Bank Group has returned more than $5.4 Million to the local community in the form of grants and sponsorships.
