Shasta College is a leader in higher education in California winning the highly selective Innovation in Higher Education award three times for nationally recognized programs that help students succeed in completing their certificate, degree or transferring to a University. Shasta College was one of 15 community colleges selected to offer a bachelor degree program in 2015 and celebrated their first graduating class in 2018. In 2016 Measure H, a $139 million general obligation bond, passed allowing the district to build new facilities and renovate existing structures. Shasta College was founded in 1948 as part of the Shasta Union High School District and serves all people in Shasta, Tehama, and Trinity Counties, including parts of Lassen, Modoc, and Humboldt Counties. Shasta College's 337-acre campus is home to a state-of-the-art $1.5 million Early Childhood Education child care center and instructional facility. The 44,000 square foot Health Sciences and University Center in downtown Redding houses the college's Dental Hygiene and Nursing Programs and also serves as host to baccalaureate degree programs. Shasta College is part of the California Community College system, which is the largest system of higher education in the world.
