Nardine Wimmin's Refuge was established in 1974 and is the oldest, still operating, women's refuge in Australia. Nardine has a proud history providing temporary accommodation and other support to women and children experiencing family and domestic violence. The services provided by Nardine are vital in Australia, where in 2012, 1,479,000 women (16.9% of the population) reported experiencing partner violence since the age of 15, and where at least one woman dies every week at the hands of a former or current partner. Nardine understands that women from any background may experience family and domestic violence, and we work toward a society where all women and children can live free from such abuse.
