The concept behind Papa Deez Catering: "N'awlins Cookin' at its Finest " was conceived by the Chef Extraordinaire / Owner (CEO), Dee W. Green Jr. who was born in Mississippi and raised in Bogalusa, Louisiana, located on the banks of the Bogue Chitto River roughly an hour drive from New Orleans.Dee learned his unique style of cooking from his mother Velma L. Green, known throughout the city as one of the finest cooks around. When you witness people walking down Mercedes Street with bowls in hand, you knew Mama Green (as she was affectionately known) was cooking up some of her famous seafood gumbo. Mama Green's gumbo, like all of her food, was extremely delicious because of the love she sprinkled on everything she touched. Neighborhood kids would constantly drop by to say hello and to see what she was cooking that day!Sadly, Mama Green passed away in 1988 and is remembered by her family of four daughters (Edna, Eula, Emma and Ella), her son (Dee Jr.), her husband (Dee Sr.), and a world of good friends, especially the kids in our neighborhood. Everyone who knew her will always have a special place in their hearts for her. She was truly a great woman, with a love of life, people and great food. In her honor, Dee developed this concept and in her memory, we strive to offer the best food and service in a way that will make you feel like you are a part of her family!
