For more than 50 years, we've helped advance the biological understanding of autism by pursuing research on its cause and potential treatments. To support the health and well-being of people affected by autism through innovative, impactful research and education.Causes of ASD remain unclear but recent scientific advances challenge the traditional view of autism as an untreatable disease—as one that is "genetically hard-wired." These developments support the position the Autism Research Institute (ARI) has always maintained: Autism Is Treatable. Established in 1967 by psychologist and renowned father of modern autism research Dr. Bernard Rimland, ARI continues to pioneer in research, outreach, and cooperative efforts with other organizations worldwide. ARI advocates for the rights of people with ASD, and operates without funding from special-interest groups.ARI funds promising research, advocates for the rights of people with ASD, and operates without funding from special-interest groups. We strive to empower individuals with autism, families, and professionals by democratizing access to information from highly qualified experts. We offer free online continuing education and webinars, facilitate scientific think tanks, and provide the Autism Treatment Effectiveness Checklist (ATEC) online for free in 20 languages. We also publish a free monthly e-newsletter and The Autism Research Review International, a printed journal released quarterly.
