Originally formed as MARINA Capital in Marina Del Rey, CA to perform asset management, loan review, and real estate collateral valuation services for Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC) contracts, LakeRock Capital now provides collateral assurance/risk management services for financial institutions.LakeRock Capital began during the commercial real estate downturn that began in the late 1980s and ended in the mid 1990s. The partnership participated in RTC securitizations of commercial real estate portfolios of struggling and failed large Thrift and Savings and Loan institutions. The RTC was a U.S. government-owned asset management company charged with liquidating real estate-related assets such as commercial mortgage loans that had been assets of savings and loan associations (S&Ls) declared insolvent.In 1996, the company moved into commercial real estate mortgage brokerage and leasing.
