La Escuelita was the first Spanish/English dual language preschool in NYC. Opened in 2003, La Escuelita was founded by Jennifer Woodruff and Jennifer Friedman, two educators and parents who sought to create a dual language school that respected individual child development and implemented a primarily play-based curriculum but also incorporated teacher-directed activities. La Escuelita values its community of families from diverse backgrounds, so a portion of its revenue is set aside to offer tuition reduction for families who could otherwise not afford to attend. The preschool serves children ages 2-5 and instruction is via 100% Spanish immersion in the 2s and 2/3s classes, then a 90/10 Spanish/English model is used for the 3s, 3/4s and 4/5s classes. Playgroups are offered for children from 12 months to 6 years and an Afterschool program is available for children in grades K-3 with previous exposure to Spanish; both programs are conducted 100% in Spanish. Additionally, we offer a 6 week Summer Immersion Program for children ages 2-5. All La Escuelita teachers are highly qualified early childhood educators and are bilingual native speakers of Spanish.
