IPA Manhattan was founded with the principal objective: to achieve the highest level of function possible, regardless of injury, symptom complexity, or personal circumstance In collaboration with the founders of the Institute of Physical Art (I.P.A.), Gregg and Vicky Johnson, who pioneered Functional Manual Therapy TM and developed one of the most rigorous certification(s) within the Physical Therapy profession, IPA Manhattan was conceived as the flagship practice. With more than 200,000 licensed Physical Therapists in the United States, less than 300 have received the distinction of being a Certified Functional Manual Therapist (CFMT). All I.P.A. Manhattan physical therapists have achieved the distinction of being a CFMT, representing the top 1% in the field. With the highest-level certification as its foundation, I.P.A. Manhattan provides unparalleled treatment, in turn achieving better results for complex patient issues, where traditional PT has failed. Each evaluation follows our 1-1-1 approach; 1 certified functional manual therapist for 1 patient for 1 hour, where symptoms of pain are traced to their true source. Through our comprehensive approach that combines "hands-on" manual therapy with an extensive evaluation that incorporates a review of work, diet and exercise habits, I.P.A. Manhattan ultimately empowers the individual to make the changes necessary to achieve optimal performance. More than 100 million people in the United States suffer from some form of chronic pain; pain affects more Americans than diabetes, heart disease and cancer combined. We want the mother who has back pain to not only be pain-free, but to live with less stress to her body which will provide her the freedom to do the things she wants. We want the runner who was referred for a torn hamstring to not only return to pain-free running, but to improve his/her time beyond expectations, as we believe that everyone has the right to a life free of pain and limitation.
