Chief Development Officer at Children's Association for Maximum Potential (CAMP) - San Antonio, Texas, United States
CAMP's mission is to strengthen and inspire individuals with special needs - and those who care for them - through Recreation, Respite, and Education. CAMP offered nine 5-day sessions of recreational camping for individuals with special needs in a medically safe environment each summer. Sessions are held at our 55-acre campground located in Center Point, TX in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. Two weeks are for adults aged 22 to 45 and the other seven are for children aged 5 to 21. CAMPers are usually assigned counselors at a one-to-one ratio. Counselors start at age 14 and go up from there. All counselors MUST attend mandatory training prior to volunteering at CAMP. Health volunteers (doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, etc) come out to help provide services to our CAMPers and often receive continuing education credits in the process. CAMP also includes the non-disabled brothers and sisters of our CAMPers who are aged 5 to 13 in the summer camping program to give parents or other primary caregivers a complete break from their child care duties. Other shorter term respite programs are offered throughout the school year.
