On 6 May 2016, the cultural association FAX inaugurated in the historic district of Pigneto, just outside the Roman walls. The poet Pasolini described it as ‘the Crown of Thorns surrounding the City of God'. Between barracks and gunshots, kids grew up in the thorns till the 70s brought a boom to the place and students and artists began moving in. The creativity in Pigneto was spontaneous, still there seemed to us a need to connect everything together. FAX was born to combine different art forms, as an aggregation of creative culture that does not usually thrive together in the traditional gallery or music space. FAX gallery is not a sterile art exhibition. We host workshops, live concerts and DJ sets, and form a bridge between the creators of culture and those who articulate it. Fax questions the very concept of art gallery or event center. FAX attempted to effect the experimentation within Rome - what FAX's founders have found lacking – building an experiential sharing space. Music and photography work together with film and conversation. It is an incubator open to the ideas of others and cultural innovation. FAX hosted musicians such as multi-instrumentalist Kenta Kamiyama (Stochastic Resonance), the talented street artist and Loop Station master Australian musician Dub Fx, blues bands like Riverweed, shoegaze musicians like Atariame, songwriters and Italian bands, live experimental artists of the electronic and techno scene as Distorted Portrait and Curved Grooves, and other international guests performances. For the FAX crew maintaining the variety of music a top priority, not to be an eclectic space as much as a completely innovative environment for artists. The project has cultural, social, and economic value, and will participate in the renovation process of Rome. FAX coagulates different cultures and facilitates the usability of a still marginal zone that possesses high potential.
