Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal (NIT Bhopal), is one of the premier technological institutes in India and the best engineering college in the state of Madhya Pradesh. Formerly known as Maulana Azad College of Technology (MACT), it assumed its present name in 2002 and was recognized as an Institute of National Importance in 2007. It started functioning in 1960 at Govt. S.V. Polytechnic with an intake of 120 students and seven faculty members, with only three engineering branches, Civil, Electrical and Mechanical. It now comprises fourteen departments, a school of management and allied centers.
