Our story " Roopkatha Creations Private Limited " started in the year 1996. In those years, we started sourcing different kinds of yarns and materials from small weavers and manufactures. These were then made into sarees. Each creation evolved from an art form, paintings, intricate weave work or sometimes to showcase the beautiful fabric we kept it simplistic. Back in the days, we socialised these intricate designs and fabrics in a smaller circle primarily in Kolkata, India. We continued to do so for years giving small weavers and artisans a commercial platform. Our story continued this way, till we realised that the sari has more potential than our limited social circle; with Kolkata being the primary market. We now bring this to you globally making it accessible across countries and continents. The primary source of inspiration remains art and our love for these beautiful weaves. The modern sari has now evolved in various forms however the artisans are still lesser known. With every sari you see in Roopkatha, there is an artisan telling you the story of a weave. Of course there are some elements we still source from manufacturers but we try to keep a sari as close as possible to its source.Keeping natural organic fabric, handlooms and pure silk as the base for all our creations, what you see is absolutely genuine in terms of fabric quality. Through our sari, you will see madhubani paintings, kalamkari art, temple art, jamdaani weaves, bishnupur art, ikkat art, patachitra paintings and so many more. We take interest in these art forms for a purpose as this is what makes our Indian roots so unique and diverse. Travel is an integral element to explore art and craft and a lot of our ideas is through our interactions from various artisans in the country and how much cross cultural influences we have derived from other parts of the world.Stay tuned to Roopkatha as we take you through this beautiful journey of art!
