Food allergies are a severe public health threat faced by millions worldwide, affecting 32 million in the U.S. alone. Very little is known about the science behind these allergies, and diagnostics and treatments remain limited. Since its inception in 2016, FASI has made tremendous progress – advancing our knowledge of food allergy, pioneering important new research discoveries in the gut-brain axis, and forming an interdisciplinary team of highly respected, top-tier scientists to solve the problem of food allergies.After five years at the Broad Institute of MIT & Harvard, FASI has launched as an independent 501c3 in Feb 2021; a multifaceted initiative that encompasses 19 world-class labs across the U.S. and includes more than 100 scientists. Through FASI, computational biologists, infectious disease experts, engineers and industry are coming together with experts who study the immune system, the digestive system, and the nervous system, all of which are now believed to conspire to cause food allergies.
