The Shriners organization was founded in 1870 by Masons seeking a way bring more fun to their fraternity life. Membership still requires that a man first be a Master Mason. Today, Shriners International boasts more than 200,000 members who attend meetings and events at nearly 200 temples (chapters) as well as thousands of local clubs and units.
