The Cluster Development projectSmart Construction Cluster SA is a cooperative owned by the cluster members. We aim to develop the cluster into the leading Norwegian force in implementation of the national «Digital Roadmap" for the industry. To digitize the building and construction industry is a high priority commitment by Norwegian government and by the industry (ref.: BYGG 21). The possibilities to use digital technologies to design&plan, construct and maintain buildings and infrastructure (roads, bridges, airports, harbours) faster, cheaper and with higher quality i is the main motivation of the cooperation effort. The goal is to shorten planning and construction time by 50%, reduce construction and lifecycle cost by 33% and reduce the environmental footprints of construction projects.Internationalizing the members, and especially the ICT members is also a key goal.Alta as a test-lab for the digital AEC value chainAlta has a broad specter of established property owners/developers, architects, construction engineering, building, logistics and construction material companies. In relation to the size of the city, it also has a good range of ICT companies targeting the AEC industry. This, combined with the City of Alta as the biggest developer in the region, and the University Campus providing the foundation and facilities for an efficient learning and innovation platform and launch pad for new services and business models. We work to make all future construction investments in our region a digitization innovation project.Process and perspectiveThe Smart Construction cluster initiative was initiated by a group of ICT and AEC industry companies, the Arctic University of Norway and City of Alta in 2015. The development perspective for the cluster is more than 10 years into the future. The cluster initiative is Currently branded with a bronze quality label by the European Secretariat for Cluster Analysis (ESCA).
