David Bonnett Associates (DBA) believes that the concept of ‘Inclusive Design' is an essential factor in the creation of good architecture. We seek to achieve inclusive design by constant reference to current best practice standards. This process underpins the assessment and evaluation methods that form the basis of our work. We maintain that access is a measurable aspect of design. We have developed our own audit method to assess access quality against both regulatory and best practice standards, and for existing and new buildings. We recognise that an accessible environment is now expected by Government, clients and the public. Therefore, we are constantly developing our assessment criteria to meet these rising expectations but in a pragmatic and practical manner. We firmly believe that achieving good accessibility requires a team approach, involving building designers and operational and facilities managers. We are accustomed to providing balanced judgements with regard to potentially competing duties and obligations; in particular where building conservation, security, and health and safety issues are concerned.
