Architects Without Borders provide ecologically sensitive and culturally appropriate design assistance to communities in need. AWB-Seattle offers assistance with three overlapping foci:• Local community development• International community development• Disaster recovery and responseFounded in 2005 by a group of architects and designers in response to the 2004 Southeast Asia Tsunami, AWB-Seattle is part of an international coalition of designers committed to providing pro bono design services to communities in need. Today, AWB works in Seattle/King County, WA, Peru, Guatemala, Indonesia, Kenya, Sumatra, and Sri Lanka. Projects have included an AWB-S focuses on low-income, marginalized, ethnically diverse communities that otherwise would be unable to afford design services to meet community needs and will contribute to raising those communities above a cycle of poverty and dependency.
