Chipman established one of the first professional practices devoted to commercial planning and design. Forming the architecture firm Chipman Design in 1979, John expanded the business from its initial staff of three and boldly began adding developing computer technology. By the mid 1990s, state-of-the-art computer technology as well as both individual and corporate architectural licensing throughout the United States became the firm's trademark.
