The Marie Mambu Makaya Foundation is building an orphanage in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where 15% of the children under 18 are orphans. Disease, poverty, and most of all the civil war has created millions of orphans, many of whom suffer torture, are forced into the army as child soldiers, are used as sex slaves or are murdered. Through our orphanage we will provide children with shelter, food, and education.The purpose of the Marie Mambu Makaya Foundation, as expressed in its articles of incorporation, is "to foster aid, support, educate and provide housing for orphans from the Democratic Republic of Congo."On February 12, 2014 the Foundation was awarded 501(c)(3) status, recognizing it as a public charity eligible for tax exempt donations. We were incorporated as a Nonprofit Corporation in Pennsylvania on January 17, 2012.
