Duck Egg was started by busy Mum-preneur, Ellie Harrington, on a kitchen table surrounded by teddies, bottles and a toddler on one knee. The Duck Egg team moved from London to the countryside and due to necessity and curiosity, furnishings were handmade for the home. Ellie was unable to find a fabric that suited a male-dominated household, yet fulfilled her wish for pretty vintage fabrics. With this design brief in mind she started to design fabrics that were relaxed yet luxurious and nostalgic yet modern, perfect to add a touch of the seaside or the romantic to any interior. After the little one was in bed, the ironing done and supper suitably burnt and the working day was over, the Duck Egg team took to their respective roles and while one planned the business strategy, the other arrogantly thinking she had learnt all she needed to know from ‘The Apprentice' took our her rusty pencils and went back to her first love of drawing. The prints are inspired by nostalgic memories, glimpses of long-lost nursery wallpaper, a sliver of a notion of an early twentieth century print from the dressing-up box and happy, warm evenings on seaside holidays.Duck Egg Designs creates a brand that aspires to add a fresh, vintage touch to the home; whether it is one-off finds, a paint transformation, sourcing furniture for a client or the delicate accent of colour and prints from the Duck Egg fabrics.
