Intern in the Sexual and Gender Based Violence Department at CDTD - Nairobi, Nairobi County, Kenya
CDTD has been a leader in changing the narrative that demeans and stigmatizes domestic workers in Kenya for the past two decades. We use a holistic and inclusive approach of working with donors, domestic workers and CSOs with like-minded vision to work towards better human rights and employment outcomes for domestic workers through advocacy, skills training, job placement, education and protection. Our work employs 3 key pillars as follows:a)Domestic Workers Transformation program – aims at empowering domestic workers and dignifying domestic labor through skills training, employment and advocacy. Towards this end, we are implementing a national curriculum for training domestic workers in homecare management and an online application (Homecarehub) that virtually connects domestic workers to employers. b)Sexual and Gender Based Violence – under this pillar; we work with CREAW, GVRC and Femnet to provide dignity to victims of SGBV. We run a shelter project (The Talia Agler Girls Shelter) which is a safe haven for victims and survivors of GBV and other victims of rights violations. We are founders of the National Shelters Network (NSN), a body that connects shelter providers to ease referral mechanisms and curb duplication of efforts in SGBV interventions among others.c)Counter Trafficking in Persons – this pillar aims at disseminating accurate information to migrants and also providing direct assistance to victims of human trafficking both children and adults.
